bilinear, symmetric function from pairs of vectors v 1 R to a real number such that v = v and v 1 = v 1 v 2 cos θ where " θ " is the angle between v 1 and v 2 .

Note to entry: Inner products in differential geometry are used on the differentials that make up the local tangent spaces. In this document, this will usually be vectors tangent to a datum surface embedded a geocentric E 3 Euclidean/Cartesian space.
